In the USA, California and Washington have passed a "Better Brake Rules" law to ensure the environmental compatibility of disc brake pads, drum
brake pads and brake shoes in motor vehicles as a result of the above situation and at the instigation of environmental agencies. As per this law, manufacturers of friction materials sold in the USA are required to register their products. The products will also need to be designated by a leaf icon that specifies the copper content in the
brake pads. For our pads, the corresponding leaf icon is found on the product labels. Additionally, as per the law passed in 2010, the total copper content of
brake pads must not exceed 5% by the year 2021 (B). As of 2025,
brake pads sold in the USA must be completely free of copper to comply with California"s and Washington"s legislation (N).
